3 Tips For Pregnancy Diet

Pregnancy is a phase in the life of a woman where whatever she takes in is of utmost importance. She needs to pay attention to her health as well as the unborn child


1. Too Much Caffeine

Caffeine is easily absorbed by the pregnant mother and passes very quickly to your baby.

Unfortunately, an unborn baby does not have the main enzyme needed to metabolize caffeine and high levels in the mother can easily build up in the baby.

A baby exposed to too much caffeine during pregnancy are at higher risk of poor growth and  also more likely to develop chronic diseases in adulthood, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease .

For these reasons, pregnant women are encouraged to limit their caffeine intake to  about 2–3 cups of coffee and if possible abstain from coffee.

2. Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the most common causes of birth defects. When consumed during the first trimester, it may also increase the risk of miscarriage

Alcohol can also cause fetal alcohol syndrome, which leads to facial deformities, heart defects and mental retardation

Since it’s difficult to estimate the lowest safe level of intake, the best approach is for pregnant women to avoid alcohol completely.

3. Low-Calorie Diet Items and Junk Food

Your body needs more calories and nutrients to support the growth of the baby.

However, low-calorie “diet” foods lack the extra calories you need.

However,  junk foods may provide too many calories and encourage overeating. This can lead to excess weight gain, which increases the likelihood of birth complications .

It also increases the risk of having an overweight child who is more likely to develop type 2 diabetes and heart disease later in life

Finally, both low-calorie diet foods and junk foods lack the nutrients your body needs to support the normal development of your baby.
